Carnival Rides at Iowa State Fair Pass Safety Inspections

Crews Work Diligently to Ensure Safety

Inspections Rigorous, Thorough

DES MOINES, Iowa - A day before the Iowa State Fair begins, safety crews have been out on the grounds daily, inspecting and double-checking rides to make sure they are safe for fairgoers.

"If I am going to let my kids ride it, I'm certainly going to let your kids ride it," said Wagner Consulting Group ride inspector Jonathan Brooks.

Brian Fox, the Carnival Division Manager, spoke at the fairgrounds today, saying, "Last year there was a very minor incident where a seat belt came loose. We immediately shut down the ride and had it inspected. It was back up and running safely within an hour."

Ten state inspectors scrutinize the electrical and mechanical components this week, double-checking seat belts and even looking for sharp edges that could pose a hazard. The rides must pass all inspections before they are allowed to open to the public.

"We want to make sure that everyone who comes to the fair has a safe and enjoyable experience," said Fox. "We take safety very seriously."

Conclusion

The Iowa State Fair is one of the largest and most popular fairs in the country, and safety is a top priority for organizers. The rigorous inspections conducted by state inspectors and ride operators ensure that the rides are safe for fairgoers of all ages. So, come on out and enjoy the fair, knowing that the rides have been thoroughly checked and are ready for a fun and safe experience.
