EuroSport Fires Bob Ballard for Inappropriate Comment

Former Olympics commentator dropped by European pay TV company

Ballard made an inappropriate comment during a live broadcast of Olympic coverage, leading to his swift removal from the broadcasting team

Veteran sportscaster Bob Ballard has been dropped from Eurosport, the European pay TV company, after making an inappropriate comment during a live broadcast of the Olympics.

During a segment of Eurosport's coverage on Monday night, Ballard made a comment that was deemed inappropriate by the broadcaster. In a statement, Eurosport said that Ballard's comment "did not meet the standards of our company" and that he had been removed from his broadcasting duties.

Ballard is not the first sportscaster to be fired for making an inappropriate comment during a live broadcast. In 2016, ESPN commentator Curt Schilling was suspended for making a controversial comment about transgender people. And in 2018, Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly was fired after it was revealed that he had made inappropriate comments to several women.

The firing of Ballard is a reminder that sportscasters are held to a high standard of conduct. They must be able to maintain their composure under pressure and avoid making any comments that could be deemed offensive or inappropriate.
