Bess Price Praises Daughter Jacinta After Successful No Vote
Bess Nungarrayi Price, the mother of federal shadow minister for Indigenous Australians Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, has praised her daughter's successful campaign against the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
"I am so proud of my daughter for standing up for what she believes in," said Bess Price, a Warlpiri woman who served as a Country Liberal minister in the Northern Territory government. "She is a strong and determined woman, and she has always fought for what she believes in."
Jacinta Price, a Warlpiri-Celtic woman, has been a vocal opponent of the Voice to Parliament, arguing that it would create a separate and unequal system for Indigenous Australians. She has also said that the Voice is unnecessary, as Indigenous Australians are already represented in Parliament through their elected representatives.
The No campaign ultimately prevailed in the referendum, with 63.7% of voters rejecting the Voice. Jacinta Price has said that she is "overwhelmed" by the result and that she believes it is a "victory for all Australians."
Bess Price said that she is "proud" of her daughter's accomplishments and that she believes she will continue to make a positive contribution to Australian society.
